Library Resources for Philosophy

Library

The philosophy e-library has an extensive list of philosophy-specific research resources.

With holdings of about 3.3 million items, including over 60,000 serials and 15,345 current subscriptions, the University of Waterloo Library offers the student of Philosophy a strong general research collection.  Collections of particular strength include epistemology, ethics, Kant, German Idealism, logic and its history, the philosophy of science and Santayana.  (Some 500 volumes of Santayana's personal library are held in the Rare Book collection).

The library is part of the Tri-University Group of Libraries—ensuring easy access to the resources of the neighbouring libraries at University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University. Waterloo students have borrowing privileges at all Ontario universities.  The resources of other research libraries are easily accessible via an excellent Interlibrary Loan service.

The library is a leader in making resources available electronically, providing web-based access to its catalogue, many indexes including the Philosopher’s Index, and electronic subscriptions to hundreds of academic journals.  The philosophy collection is maintained by a subject specialist in the library who also serves as the liaison between the department and the library and so is available to assist students in their research.
