Philosophy Colloquia and Special Events

Many distinguished philosophers have visited the campus to offer courses, present papers or seminars, or participate in conferences.  Over the past few years, these have included Mark Wilson, Penelope Maddy, Bob Batterman, Jason Stanley and Anjan Chakravartty. Past visitors have also included Crispin Wright, Ian Hacking, John Bell, Paul Churchland, Timothy Williamson, Stewart Shapiro, Anil Gupta, Michael Ruse, Joe Ellin, Ron de Sousa, David Gauthier, Bob Hale, Stephen Read, and Alasdair Urquhart.

The department regularly hosts a visiting Humphrey Chair in Feminist Philosophy. In May 2003, Christine Overall of Queen's University ws the inaugural holder of the Chair; our most recent Humphrey Chair is Ann Garry, of Cal State LA. See here for more information about the chair and the philosophers who have held it.

The Philosophy Graduate Student Association (PGSA) hosts an annual Graduate Student Conference; see the PGSA page for more information.
