Arts and Business Co-op and Regular - Overview

The Honours Arts and Business Co-op and Regular academic plans offer students the opportunity to combine the features and strengths of an Honours Arts Major academic plan with a particular augmentation and focus on business and career interests. Students are admitted to the Honours Arts and Business Co-op or Regular academic plan in Year One and starting in Year Two extend their area of study to include an Honours Major in an Arts discipline. Students will follow the Honours Major requirements as designated by the major department and fulfill the requirements for the Arts and Business academic plan as specified below.

Students in the Arts and Business Co-op and Regular academic plans integrate a number of business-oriented and related courses that comprise the Arts and Business course component and a concentration of courses specific to their Honours Arts Major. The select group of Arts and Business courses, along with the concentrated area of study offered through the Honours Arts Major, provides students with an enriched academic background essential to a wide range of rewarding careers. Students are required to declare an Honours Arts Major prior to the class enrolment period for Year Two.

Honours Philosophy (Arts and Business Co-op and Regular)

Students may combine the Honours Philosophy academic plan with Arts and Business.

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Philosophy average of 75%.

Eligibility for graduation in the Honours Philosophy (Arts and Business Co-op and Regular) academic plan includes successful fulfillment of the following requirements:

1. Appropriate BA Program-level requirements. See Bachelor of Arts.
2. Philosophy Plan-level requirements:
   • at least eight academic course units (16 courses) in Philosophy with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, including:
     • PHIL 221, 240, 250A, 250B
       • St. Jerome's students may take PHIL 218J instead of PHIL 221 
     • one of PHIL 216, 341, 342, 416, 441  
       • St. Jerome's students may take 200J instead of the above
     • one of PHIL 324, 328, 329, 420, 422
     • three from lists (A) and (B) below with at least one from each of (A) and (B):
       (A) PHIL 255, 256, 355, 359, 363, 455, 463
       (B) PHIL 258, 350, 447, 452, 458, 459
     • one of PHIL 380, 382, 384, 386, 403, 404, 405, 407, 408
     • six PHIL courses at the 300- or 400-level, including at least three at the 400-level
       • St. Jerome's students must take PHIL 450J, if available (consult St. Jerome's Department Chair for details.)
3. Arts and Business requirements.

Note: PHIL 145, 200J, 216, 218J, 221, 240, 250A, and 250B are offered regularly. The other courses listed above also satisfy plan requirements, but are only offered from time to time. For details on current courses, go to http://philosophy.uwaterloo.ca/.
